Indosat launches Google Play Carrier Billing in Indonesia

Indosat has launched Google Play Carrier Billing for its Indonesian customers allowing them to purchase applications on the Google Play Store by using their pre-paid airtime credit. Direct Carrier Billing with Google Play Store is the first service of its kind in Indonesia.

Carrier billing is the method of purchasing applications, content or games by deducting the cost from a prepaid subscription or directly charging subscribers via their postpaid bill. This method of purchasing applications, content or games is now available for Indosat’s customers using smartphones with an Android operating system.

Carrier billing is an increasing consumer trend in emerging markets where low levels of financial inclusion and a lack of access to a debit or credit cards present an obstacle to purchasing online content.

Alexander Rusli, CEO and President Director commented, “Indosat Carrier Billing with Google Play Store is the first of its kind in Indonesia, so we hope this service gives the convenience to Indosat customers to purchase applications, content, games and books through their mobile device without the need of using credit or debit cards. This service offering is also part of our commitment to the people of Indonesia that Indosat will always create new and innovative services to stay ahead of competition. This initiative is the part of Indosat efforts to become the carrier of choice for smart device users.
