MediaCom wins Komli’s 60-Second Pitch challenge
Komli Media has a winner for its inaugural 60-Second Pitch, which had begun with GroupM. Out of the 11 entries that were competing from the various GroupM agencies, four entries stood out for the jury members. The winner however is a MediaCom team representing an auto brand.
The top contenders come from entertainment and hospitality brands from Maxus and electronics brand from Mindshare. The Komli team announced the winner, and presented the prize, at GroupM office on April 22, 2015.
Speaking on the win, one of the contestants from MediaCom commented, “We first learnt more about Komli’s offerings and worked on understanding the strengths of each offering. We had a few rounds of team discussions on the content and way of presentation before recording the final video for submission, and it is great to see the effort pay off. It was a great opportunity for us to challenge ourselves to pitch our idea in an engaging and creative manner in just 60 seconds.”
The jury team included Nick Seckold, Managing Director, Mindshare Singapore; Desh Balakrishnan, Managing Director, Maxus Singapore; Vivien Yeung, Managing Director, MediaCom Singapore; Damien Lavin, VP, Komli SEA & ANZ and Paul Davies, Country Director, Komli Singapore and Malaysia.
Giving a sense of the quality of the overall work, Mr Davies said, “I was incredibly impressed with the teamwork, creativity and quality of entries shown by each contestant. I feel this has been a worthwhile exercise for both the agencies and Komli. It proves that this initiative does not only drive amazing work but encourage strategic thinking when answering clients’ digital objectives.”
While the program was designed to help the teams learn more about Komli’s product portfolio, for Mr Seckold, there was greater value in providing an environment where the teams could use as much creativity as they wanted to pitch their ideas to the judges. “We only need to look at one of the presentations where 2x ‘teddy bears’ were used to pitch an idea. Not sure the ‘teddies’ will make it to a ‘live pitch’ but the lessons learned throughout the process will clearly help the team when they are faced with a real situation,” he remarked, adding, “As agencies, we are not often in a situation where anything goes, so I’m sure most of the guys who participated, enjoyed the opportunity to respond in a safe environment with the ‘shackles off’ so to speak.”
His sentiment was echoed by Mr Balakrishnan, who said that the combination of creativity, effort and dedication shown by the agencies was “admirable”. He said, “It was also encouraging to see the various video editing techniques, strategy and conceptualisation by the teams as they were refreshing and original. Overall, it has been mutually beneficial for both Komli and all our GroupM agencies’ team to be involved in this fun challenge.”
