SXSW 2015: What’s Topped Twitter Out of Texas So Far?
With most of SXSW 2015 now in the rear view mirror (but don’t worry, there’s still much, much more to come), it’s at least now possible to assess what’s truly been the hottest chatter to emerge out of Austin this year.
What’s the tool of choice to measure such a thing? Why, Twitter, of course!
According to Twitter data (which adds up to about 900,000 SXSW-focused tweets between March 13-17), some clear hashtag winners emerge — #SXSW2015, #Austin, #entrepreneur, #marketing, and #startup were huge, among others.
But according to AdAge, there were some unorthodox standouts on that list too — #videogames and #twitch, for example, were also tweeted like there’s no tomorrow.
In fact, gaming may be among the top attention-getters of this year’s festival.
“Although gaming has long been a part of Interactive, the SXSW Gaming Expo was launched in 2013 to provide a three-day focus,” the report explains. “The fact that the subject provided two of the most-tweeted hashtags suggests that online platforms like Twitch (which was purchased by Amazon last year) are helping the growth of the industry. A recent study by YouTube indicated that two-thirds of U.S. consumers are playing videos games. Six of YouTube’s top 10 channels involve gaming content.”
