Mobile leads the way for FB traffic in Hong Kong
About 83 per cent of all content posted by Hong Kongers on Facebook during summer last year was via their smartphone, according to a global Facebook study.
Mobile is a constant companion for Hong Kongers as 74 per cent of people who connected to Facebook last summer were on mobile.
The research highlights that brands should reach out to Hong Kongers on mobile during summers as it is their primary medium.
The Facebook study reveals that during summer people set goals for themselves such as getting fit, exploring new travel destinations or trying out a new hobby.
The study also highlights that more than any other season, summer is also the busiest period for making new connections as Hong Kongers accepted 1.2 times more friend requests on Facebook than during winter.
Across summer, Hong Kongers posted a total of nearly 800 million pieces of content – text, photo and video posts on Facebook.
Around 6.5 million pieces of content was created on Facebook every day in Hong Kong during summer last year with 25-34 year olds dominating the conversation on the platform. There was a 50 per cent growth in global video views from May-July last year.
A recent poll of Facebook users in Hong Kong also shows that travel is high on their priority list for this summer, with six in 10 planning to spend more on exploring a new destination compared to other seasons.
Trying out a new activity, exercising more and eating healthy and planning to spend more time outdoors are also high on their goals for summer.
The study highlights that brands should leverage the opportunity that summer presents. As it is a big season for travel and shopping, brands can connect through meaningful messages to consumers by planning their strategy and activations early.
Brands can also play a part in the ‘Summer adventure’ by using the right messages at the right moments thus creating a connection that will last well beyond summer.
