Instagram hits 700 mn monthly users mark
Beware Snapchat, Instagram is growing, and it’s growing fast. In the latest numbers released by Facebook-owned platform, Instagram now has 700 million monthly users. The last 100 million Instagrammers came in within four months.
The platform which launched in October 2010, has doubled in size in just two years. In December 2014, the app had 300 million users, which reached 400 million by September 2015.
In the last few months, Facebook went all out to make the image and video app the go-to platform for millennials and the users above 35 years as well, even if it meant copying its rival, Snapchat. Instagram added the disappearing-in-24-hours Stories in August 2016, which was well received and clocked up to 150 million daily users by March 2017. It brought the Live Video, Boomerang and Mention features to Stories as well. The Direct messaging feature on Instagram got a complete overhaul and the camera has added many features, such as geofilters. It also introduced many features relevant for businesses to target their users – by launching in-app purchasing features and ads on Stories.
GlobalWebIndex’s data shows that It’s among the millennials that the platform continues to shine, with almost six in ten now having an account.
A press statement by Facebook said the growth was driven by a number of factors, including the platform’s ability to better connect people with their friends, and easier sign-up.
“We’ve made it even easier for people across the globe to join the Instagram community, share their experiences and strengthen connections to their friends and passions. With new features like stories, live video and disappearing messages in Direct, people now have more ways than ever to express themselves and feel closer to what matters to them,” a company blog post said.
