Heard from Google that some interesting developments concerning the GDN and +1 button are coming our way early October.

The +1 button will begin appearing on display ads on the Google Display Network.  The +1 button on display ads will work the same way it has on your Google.com search ads.  With a single click, people can recommend brands and offers to their friends and contacts.

Google +1

Incorporating these recommendations into display ads has the potential to change the way people perceive advertising. A display ad becomes much more powerful when people can see which of their friends and contacts have chosen to actively endorse a page.  What’s more, the +1 button on display ads will work together with the +1 button on search results and websites.

For example, let’s say your friend Elaine used the +1 button to recommend a hotel site when she saw it in Google Search. Now, wherever the page appears, Elaine’s recommendation can help you decide whether it’s worth your time. You might see Elaine’s +1 on the page itself (next to the +1 button), on a search ad, or on a display ad showing elsewhere on the web.

The +1 button and personalised annotations will appear at the bottom right of display ads, then fade out until the user hovers over the ad.  The user can also close the button and annotations by clicking the ‘x’.  This treatment aims to help get your ads the most attention without concealing or obscuring any critical parts of your creatives. You also have the option to opt any display campaign out of this feature.  The opt out is already available in your campaign settings.
